The Waterloo Region District School Board is ready to launch the Elementary Remote Learning School known as ERL.

As we prepare to start school on September 7, we would like to share some key information.

School Set-up

Caregiver Communication

The Elementary Remote Learning School will use three key spaces to share information with caregivers:

School DayIn this space we will post all school wide information including school events, news items and school forms that require caregiver approval.  Educators may also use it to communicate directly with their assigned classrooms.

School WebsiteThis space contains posts about important events within the ERL School, information to prepare for remote learning, attendance procedures and many other key information items.

Twitter – This space will tweet daily events and activities occurring in the virtual classrooms and hallways of the Elementary Remote Learning School.

School Start-Up

September 1st – 3rd

  • Families will receive a welcome call or email from their child’s educator
  • Information will be shared about the ERL program and how to get started in the virtual classroom 
  • Educators will share a schedule for the first day of school

September 7th

  • Combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning
  • Small group virtual meetings will take place throughout the day to welcome students to the program and start building the foundations of the classroom environment.
  • Asynchronous choice boards will be posted in the virtual learning environment

September 8th onward

  • Regular School Schedule
  • 9:00am to 3:20pm
  • Two Nutrition Breaks
  • 300 minutes of instruction
  • Gr 1-8 
    • 225 minutes of synchronous learning 
      • (Live Virtual Learning with the teacher)
    • 75 minutes of asynchronous learning 
      • (Independent Learning assigned by the teacher)
  • Kindergarten
    • 180 minutes of synchronous learning
      • (Live Virtual Learning with the teacher)
    • 120 minutes of asynchronous learning
      • (Independent Learning assigned by the teacher)
